Interview with a huge wrestling fan

Some of you may know that every month I have a guest star on my blog. The last couple of months I have sadly missed, but I am now back on track with another interview. This time it's all about my best friend Paige. She is a huge fan of wrestling, here is why. Enjoy!

Paige is the one on the right with a huge smile

1. Why do you like wrestling so much?

'I have always enjoyed wrestling, ever since I was a child when I used to watch it with my family. The community surrounding wrestling is very supportive and I've always found it fun to just watch, even if it was in the background while I was doing something else. I like watching both 'indie' shoes from the UK, such as Insane Championship Wrestling (ICW), and more mainstream companies like WWE.'

2. When did you first get into wrestling?

'I first got into wrestling when I was young, during what is called the ''attitude era'' in WWE which was more of an aggressive period in professional wrestling, and I think I was around 3 or 4 years old at the time. It was a past-time that I did with both of my brothers and my dad and we would stay up later than usual to watch it.'

3. Do you ever wish you could go back to your first experience of it?

'Yes, I do because it almost seems like a simpler time to me now haha! I'm currently at university and the treasurer of the Wrestling Society so I do wish that I could go back to being 4 years old when I had no cares in the world!'

 4. What things don't you like about it?

'I don't really like how it is perceived in society, as a lot of people who enjoy it get embarrassed about liking it or consider it a 'guilty pleasure' but I don't see why it has to be that way! Yes, it may not be 'real' in the sense that they are fighting by they do get hurt and I don't like how people think that it is something to be ashamed of.'

5. Who is your favourite wrestler?

'My current favourite wrestler in the WWE is either Seth Rollins or Finn Balor. They are both incredibly talented athletes and really get the crowd excited when they perform and I really want to see them live one day! Although my favourite indie wrestler would be the British wrestler called Will Osprey, whose nickname is Aerial Assassin, as he is an amazing performer and really engaging in person.'

6. Which wrestlers don't you like?

'There are not really any wrestlers that I don't like although there are a few that I think are not reaching their potential and not performing very well. For example, Bray Wyatt in the WWE has a weird gimmick where he sees himself as a God but he then loses around 90% of matches that he performs in which is disappointing.'

7. Would you encourage other people to watch it and why?

'I would absolutely encourage other people to watch wrestling! The atmosphere at an event or watching it on the TV is so fun to participate in, the performers are very athletic and it's community is great to also get involved in.'

8. Have you seen it live before? If so, what was the experience like?

'Yes, I have seen it live before. Before the summer semester at university, in preparation for the Wrestling Society, I went to a few smaller shows to see what the atmosphere was like but during the summer I went to a bigger show, that was Professional Wrestling World Cup that was run by WhatCulture Professional Wrestling (WCPW) which was really cool to watch.'

9. Would you ever want to become a wrestler?

'I don't think that I have mentality personally to become a wrestler! It would be great to become more fit and athletic, especially doing something that I love but I don't think I have the self-discipline.'

10. What would you say to people who have never watched it before?

'I'd just advise people to give it a chance! A lot of people that have never watched it really enjoy it when it comes down to it, especially if they like franchises such as UFC or mixed martial arts in general. It's very entertaining and worth it if you give it ago!'
Me and Paige before a night out

Thank you, Paige, for letting me interview you. It was a lot of fun to do and learnt a lot about wrestling and it's changed my negative views on it for sure!

Hope you enjoyed finding out about wrestling, I sure did.
